Frequently asked questions

What is the MRCS Part B OSCE?

The MRCS Part B is the clinical component of the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons exam. It consists of 17 examined stations, each lasting 9 minutes (1 minute reading + 6 minutes task + 3 minutes examiner questions). The exam covers applied knowledge (anatomy, pathology, surgical science) and applied skills (clinical, procedural, communication).

How is the MRCS OSCE different from PLAB 2?

The MRCS OSCE is specifically for surgical trainees and includes anatomy stations, pathology specimen identification, surgical clinical examinations, and examiner-led questioning — none of which appear in PLAB 2. The marking scheme focuses on applied knowledge (160 marks across 8 stations) and applied skills (180 marks across 9 stations), and you must pass both categories.

What station types are in the MRCS Part B?

The exam includes anatomy and surgical pathology stations (5 stations), applied surgical science and critical care (3 stations), clinical and procedural skills (5 stations), and communication skills including history taking, consent, and breaking bad news (4 stations).

When will MRCS OSCE preparation be available?

We're developing surgical-specific content including anatomy stations, pathology interpretation, surgical consent scenarios, and examiner-style questioning formats. Join the waitlist to be notified at launch and receive early bird pricing.

Can I use the current platform to prepare for the MRCS?

Our communication skills scenarios (history taking, counselling, consent) are broadly relevant to the MRCS communication stations. However, the MRCS requires surgical anatomy, pathology, and examiner-led questioning formats — which is what our dedicated MRCS preparation will provide.
